Workshop and Model WTO Exercise

On April 7-8, 2014 the Institute of International Relations hosted the Workshop and Model WTO Exercise for students organized under the auspices of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine with participation of experts from Ukraine and the United States.

The Workshop and Model WTO Exercise was held within the framework of English- language Master’s program “International Trade Regulation” of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv with great support of the professors of the Masters program and lawyers of Sergii Koziakov and Partners Law firm – Sergii Koziakov, Viktoria Kotsiubska and Anna Gladshtein.

Around 50 students from the universities of Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkov, Donetsk, and Dnepropetrovsk were selected on the competitive basis to participate in the Workshop and Model WTO Exercise.

The speakers for the Workshop include: David Meale, Economic Counselor, U.S. Embassy in Ukraine; Christopher Smith, First Secretary, Economic  Section, U.S. Embassy in Ukraine; Valerii Pyatnitsky, Government Commissioner for European Integration; Svitlana Zaitseva, Deputy Director of the Department for Cooperation with the WTO and Trade Remedies, Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine; Keith Crane, Director of the RAND Corporation’s Environment, Energy, and Economic Development Program;  Bill Watson, CATO’s Herbert A. Stiefel Center for Trade Policy Studies; the lecturers at the English-language Master program of the Institute of International Relations “International Trade Regulation” and the counsellors of Attorneys-at-law Koziakov & Partners – Sergii Koziakov, Viktoria Kotsiubska and Anna Gladshtein.

Partner Sergii Koziakov spoke on the impact of Russian Federation occupation policy in Ukraine on international trade. Counsellor Victoria Kotsiubska delivered the presentation on the subject concerning the regional trade agreements. Besides the performances, Sergii Koziakov, Viktoria Kotsiubska and Anna Gladshtein were the panellists during the competition together with American colleagues.

After the competition, His Excellency Geoffrey Pyatt, Ambassador of the United States to Ukraine spoke about the today position of the USA regarding the last tendencies in international trade. Director of the Institute of International Relations Valeriy V. Kopiyka has announced the first- year experience results of the Master program “International Trade Regulation”.
