The team of “Sergii Koziakov & Partners” together with Italian partners – law firm Legance Avvocati Associati – successfully defended interests of the state of Ukraine in the case of murder of the Italian journalist Andrea Rocchelli, who died in Slavyansk during the hostilities with the participation of illegal military formations supported by the Russian Federation.
Within the criminal proceedings against Ukrainian National Guard Vitaliy Markiv and further court proceedings, Ukraine acted as a civil defendant in the case.
The court of Italian city of Pavia found Markiv guilty and sentenced him to 24 years of inprisonment. Lawyers for Markiv and for the state of Ukraine have appealed the verdict to the Milan Court of Appeal.
The efforts of attorneys were aimed at ensuring a full and comprehensive examination by the Italian courts of the actual circumstances of the case, acquitting the Ukrainian serviceman in court and protecting the interests of the state of Ukraine.
Lawyers of the state of Ukraine provided the court of appeal with exhaustive materials and argumentation of innocence of both Markiv and the Ukrainian troops in connection with deaths of journalists near Slavyansk in 2014.
On October 3 the Milan Court of Appeal awarded acquittal in the case of the Ukrainian National Guard serviceman Vitaliy Markiv.
The state of Ukraine in the case was defended by lawyers of “Sergii Koziakov and Partners” Andrii Pylypenko, Elena Gladyuk, partners Andriy Karnaukhov and Nikolay Podpalov, as well as lawyers Niccolo Bertolini Clerici, Silvia Cossu and Stefano Parlatore from Italian law firm Legance Avvocati Associati.
